Inspired by her grandmother's example of pioneering faith, the founder, Robin Martin, felt a calling to serve hurting women after a radical change in her faith journey in 1993. In 2012, God provided a clear vision, leading her to Isaiah 61:1-3 as a confirmation of His plan for her to work with women in need.
After much prayer and patient waiting for God's timing, The Oaks Ministry was officially established as a non-profit in June 2015. The Leadership Team and congregation of Media Mennonite Church, where Robin was attending, generously provided an old farmhouse on their property for the first Oaks home, leasing it for $1 per month in exchange for the ministry taking responsibility for renovations.
Funds for the restoration were miraculously provided in a short period, and the home was fully restored by January 2016, welcoming its first residents in February 2016. As the need for support continued to grow, a second home, Oaks 2, was established in September 2016, followed by a third home in Lancaster County in 2023, also restored with community support.
The Oaks Ministry now provides transitional housing and Christ-centered support services, including counseling, workshops, life skills, mentoring, and financial guidance The continue to serve women impacted by homelessness, incarceration, addiction, and other difficult situations. Each woman's journey is a testament to the transformative power of God's love and the supportive community found at The Oaks Ministry.
